Learned from the best

Uprising is in a few days so I have had many late nights (3 am is the average the last couple of nights) with busy days trying to get ready. This year I get to make the book that is handed out when you arrive that has the rules and regulations, scheduling, etc. So, I finally got it pretty much done late last night and emailed it to a couple of people to have them read through to make sure I got everything we need in it. After sleeping a couple of hours I woke up and I realized my mommy was finally able to teach me some of her ways. I had a note on the email to hurry and proof the book so I could send it to the people that are printing it. I think they might have some trouble reading it if I never send them the attachment in the first place.

On another note, I did take my State Test about a month ago, and passed!! So I'm an official CNA for about a month now. WOO HOO!!! All the habits of work are starting to seep into me, especially this week when I've been so tired. Every time we walk in a residents room, we knock, there's been a couple of times I've almost knocked on the door as I walked in a room at home.

I got Dan a cheap blood glucose monitor (finally. YAY!) and he was checking his sugar level last night. I was being helpful and threw the strip away for him and had to keep telling myself that I don't need to wear gloves to do that at home with my husbands strips.

Now that I've amused you all with my blondness, I am going to see if I can get a couple more hours of sleep so when I spend the day sewing I won't have to spend tomorrow resewing everything I do today.

I passed!!

In January I started taking a class to be a CNA, it was about 6 weeks of class and 6 weeks of clinicals, we did ours in a long term care facility (aka old folks home). Last week I started a new job, working at the place where we did clinicals. Today I took the Manual Skills test. I passed!! :-D Now I have to wait until May 4 to take the written test and become an official CNA.

New and Improved Potato Soup

I decided to make potato soup for dinner the other night. Mostly because we had a gallon of milk that need to be used. After I dug out the potato peeler, I realized I haven't used it (it was one we got as a wedding present) and we have no others. I got a batch of potatoes peeled and chopped and cooked, then decided we needed more. So I started peeling those and hurrying because Dan thought he was about to starve to death. Pretty soon I had only 3 potatoes left to peel, and I decided that would be a good time to peel my finger too. It wasn't too bad, enough to make it very difficult to finish the last 3 potatoes because it kept bleeding, and the band-aid i had was one of those plastic breather types, so it wasn't much help. Apparently that's why I never use the potato peeler, all this time I thought it was just because I was too lazy.

Don't worry, I didn't get any in the soup and it was very yummy. And my finger is almost all better now so you don't need to worry about that either.

I noticed Saturday that I paper cut two fingers, then peeled one on Sunday. I was very worried I would end up losing a finger on Monday. I thought about staying in bed all day, I figured I would be safest there. That seemed very unproductive though so I risked it and did a little Christmas shopping and even wrapped the presents without hurting myself.

New Do

I've been thinking for the last few weeks that I should get a cut. I'm sick of everything getting plugged up from long hairs. Yesterday I decided I had enough, so today after work if looked for pictures of what I wanted. I knew what I wanted, but I know there's more chance to get what you want when you show them a picture and say do this.
So here is the picture I showed them.

And here's what I got.

Pretty good huh? The bang are messed up in my pic because the had it parted in the middle, and that's how they dried, so it was almost impossible to get them to unpart long enough to take a picture.

I win!!

For the couple of you that read my blog, and not mom's blog... Mom did a squash weight competition. Whoever guessed the weight closest to the big fatso squash got a possibility of getting it (if it didn't have to be shipped). I guessed 50lbs, thinking I was too high. Mom just called to tell me I win! He was 50.5lbs, and I even get to have him. Yum Yum Yum!!!

So, this is a picture of the winter squashes and pumpkins.

Stupid Computers

I had a post all typed up and ready to go, it had pictures and everything. Then the web browser decided it had enough fun and closed.
Then I went on a rescue mission to Elko. I don't know who I was supposed to rescue, Mom or Nephews. It was a ton of fun there, until Dan told me the car was dead and he couldn't get to work, we figured a couple of ways to get him there, mostly bumming rides of other people. So I ended up going home a couple of days earlier then planned. The night before I was coming home, Dan called and told me his computer crashed ('puter #1). The hard drive that had the workable OS is dead. We hooked up his old 'puter ('puter #2) to discover it was full of spy ware and viruses and crap like that. So now we had two almost workable computers. Dan decided he would hook up my OLD 'puter ('puter #3). It was given to Brother who decided to be nice and give it to me when he didn't need it. Dan did some work on it, clearing Brothers stuff off and putting some games on for me, he decided it's about 15 years old. In computer years, that would make it one of the last Dinosaurs. Dan used internet on it a little, then gave up on it because it's really slow.
Finally, last weekend we were down in Twin and his friend was able to get us a copy of XP. So Dan got 'puter #1 hooked back up, loaded the OS, to discover now he has to find all the drivers again before it's usable, which means he has to get he former roommate to stop demolishing his house long enough to get the sites to us.
Now it's back to using 'puter #2, which also got the OS reinstalled, and it's much much happier.
What a headache!!

Now to the exciting part. Just before I found out about the rescue mission of Nephews, my visiting teachers came over. This was the first time for one of them to be able to make it, she told me she runs a little hamburger joint, and to pick up an ap. With the rescue mission, that got pushed back, so I stopped by after I got back home and talked to her a little. And I start working there tomorrow! YAY!! It's not much, only a couple of hours a day a couple of days a week, but it will be better than nothing.

Then I wake up last week to a message from her saying to call her she heard about a job somewhere else. Not that she doesn't want me, just she knows I need more money and more hours. I called her back and we both laughed at the weirdness of the message.

Anyway, that's the excitement of the last while. Eventually everything will work out.

Oh, the next Wheel of Time book (#12) got bumped up a week, so now it is scheduled to come out two days before my B-day! Dan has already been instructed that is what he is getting me, and I get to read it first.
We also got Season 5 of House while we were in Twin, (Dan says it's an early present) and got to watch most of it on Dan's Dads fancy flat screen, I think he said it's 42" something around there, beats the tar out of our crummy little old TV's.

Happy Fourth of July!

I had an update all most all typed up and ready yesterday, then the power went out... just long enough to turn off the 'puter.
So now you are stuck with a boring little Happy Fireworks Day!

Oh yeah, I get to play with fireworkies today!!! I'm still getting used to fireworks being legal. :-)

I'm ALIVE!!

I know it's been a really long time since I posted. I got a part-time, temporary, on-call, personal assistant type job from a guy in my ward. I did a dictation for him a week or so ago. He called me this evening (9:30ish) to see if I could type up 44 pages of family history sorta stuff, it looks to be a relatives personal history the beginnings anyway. But that's all fine until he gets to the part that he needs all this done by tomorrow evening. Still not too bad until the you add the fact that Dan and I have joined (rejoined for Dan) this medieval type group (the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronism). And we have a BIG campout starting June 17, which highly recommends that we be dressed up in medieval/renaissance type clothing... of which I have none, and Dan needs a cloak. So I figured if I make one article of clothing every two days I can get it all done. That includes cutting all the fabric out and hemming, both of which I really don't like. Most of it won't be too bad, the patterns I have for this time are very simple, basic dresses. I am a bit worried about doing two cloaks both of them with two layers. I'm much more comfortable with quilt making then clothing making.
I also learned some new needlework type stitcheries. It's very fun. It's called Blackstitch because origonally it was done with black thread on white fabric (it's very common on Elizabethan clothing) basically a backstitch that's reversible. So when the fabric gets flipped over it's pretty on the underside too.
It's very rainy outside right now, that's a very welcome change.
I will post pictures of my projects and our camping trip in a few weeks, after we go and come back. ;-)

A little something for the fans

Sorry my adoring fans, I'm not going to bore you with a day in the life of us. Mostly we sit at home watching Netflix and playing on the computer. Eventually I will wander off and take some pictures of around where we live, but I'm waiting until it quits snowing so plants can grow and bloom.

What I do have for you today is a couple of pictures of my lovely little project.

This is the first 3 pages. Page 3 ends at the bottom of the longest stems. And that is also the bottom of the cross stitch. YAY!!

And here we have what consists of pages 2 and 3. Page 2 is done, and about half of page 3.

This is to give you an idea of how huge it really is.

I'm sure everyone is very anxious to know what the final product will look like.

Yes, I know I'm completely insane for doing such a huge project. No Lil' Sista it won't be done for Marky, or Isaac's birthdays!

What happens when Little Sister gets a camera

Last week was Help Mom Move week. So Dan took me down there on Sunday and Mom brought me back home the next Sunday. I think it was Thursday we decided to go out to dinner. I decided to shower so I didn't feel like I had been moving all day. While I was in there my Little Sister got a hold of my phone. This is just a little of what I found on it later.

Molly making silly faces (there was a bunch of them).

A happy Marky, he's now 8 months old. And likes his Auntie Meep, I'm one of the few that can hold him without him crying.

Fish City

A little over a year ago I found this really cool cross-stitch pattern. I started it, then we moved and it got packed away and forgotten. A couple of weeks ago I finally pulled it out again and started working on it. Dan decided I'm going to die of old age by the time I get this thing done. It is approximately 1/15 done in this picture.

I know it doesn't look like much yet, but it will look really cool when I get done.

To give you an idea of how big this cross-stitch is, the first page is the entire part down to just below the green and black fish, there is a total of 15 pages. I will keep you updated on this project and others, and anything exciting that happens.

PS. IT'S SNOWING!!!

Happy Valentines Day!!

I was finally brave and made bread all by myself Thursday. Dan was hungry when I took the first 2 loaves out of the oven, so we sliced one and ate on that while I cooked dinner. My 3 loaves are now 1. It looks like I have to make bead again on Monday, hopefully the loaf will last that long. It really is too bad that he doesn't like my cooking.

Meepity Blogness

I decided to start a blog, but don't expect too much, we are pretty dull boring people. By now there are already at least 2 blogs with pictures of the Nephews, and we don't get to see them much so not much chances for us to get new pics. The fishies don't do much so there won't be anything exciting to tell about them.

As some of you may remember a long long time ago Molly found a Look-Alike-Meter to see who Isaac looks like more. Well, I rediscovered it yesterday and decided to play with it since everyone says Isaac looks like me. After many different attempts and photos, it came up that both nephews are between looking slightly (4% was the highest) more like Dan to being even between us. Dan was pretty amused when I told him that yesterday. He said Little Sister will be very disturbed by it.

That's pretty much as exciting as it gets around here.
